About Us

Her Winter, My Summer is a food and lifestyle blog co-authored by friends, Christy and Kaitlin.

Christy lives in Princeton, New Jersey and Kaitlin lives in Auckland, New Zealand so this blog operates as an ode to friendship across oceans, hemispheres, seasons, and 16 time zones.

Lucky you, reader! You always get advice on what to eat, wear, and do--two seasons at a time!

We choose a common theme, ingredient, item of clothing, or project, and then develop an individual post for our relevant season. Growing tulips while the other carves a pumpkin might seem worlds apart, but we're learning that our lives can be quite connected despite the temperatures.

Our friendship hasn’t always been long-distance, though. We first met at the University of Florida in 2010 when Christy was Kaitlin’s student in the Introduction to Art History course that Kaitlin taught as a Teacher's Assistant. Someday we’ll tell you the totally unlikely story of how our friendship blossomed into the beautiful, life-changing entity it is today. (Stay tuned.)

Deep in our souls, we are wanderers. Christy spent the fall of her senior year studying at a university in Rennes, France, and then decided she missed Europe so much that after she graduated, she hitchhiked across it for 3.5 months with two friends. During this trip, she stealth camped in Bruges, Belgium, caught a lift with a caravan of classic American cars in Sweden, miserably failed a pub quiz with her hitchhiking lift in his village of Felixkirk, England ("population 30-40"), had an impromptu dance party in the middle of a Polish highway, and ate pizza in 20 freaking countries. Kaitlin has traveled abroad on her own for the last 12 years: from a high school exchange student to Japan, a volunteer to save the turtles on a wild beach in Costa Rica, a teacher in Russia, a nanny and adventurer in France, a yoga amateur in India, a backpacker from Italy to London, and now a hiker and lover in the Pacific. For the time being, we love our homes, but this blog will always be about our love of travel (and how to do it well!). This is our place to stay connected and creative, and we hope you find something to inspire your hobbies and interests, or just the epic friendships in your own life. xx
